The University of Illinois

The Sigma Chapter of Chi Phi was founded at the University of Illinois in 1912 by a group of committed men, including noted Illinois alumnus Herman Charles Krannert. The Chapter continued throughout the decades until closing its doors in 1996 for financial reasons. In the Spring of 2008 the Sigma Chapter returned to Illinois. Since then we've strived to maintain the values upon which Chi Phi was founded through service, scholarship, respect, and brotherhood. We look forward to continuing the proud tradition of Chi Phi at Illinois.

The Creed of Chi Phi

I believe in the Chi Phi Fraternity. From its triple origin, Chi Phi sets forth and
maintains values that others in society have dared to compromise. Truth, honesty, and
personal integrity are the foundations upon which Chi Phi is built. A man's word is his
bond. Chivalrous behavior crosses the ages to touch the heart of Chi Phi.

I believe in the friendship of Chi Phi. Whether on the road or in the Chapter house,
the hand of Brotherhood is always extended. The strength obtained from the union of
congenial minds is the backbone of the Fraternity. Our founders sought for nothing
less.

Finally, I believe in the future of the Chi Phi Fraternity because I believe in myself.
When I put forth my best effort and combine that with the strength of my Brothers, we
can achieve the victory of continual existence.

As long as the Almighty permits, I will strive to better myself through the teachings of
my Fraternity. Being a more aware citizen, a more able person, and a stronger Chi Phi
shall be my reward.

The Chi Phi Fraternity was founded in 1824 and came into existence as it is today when the three founding orders joined together in 1874. The Fraternity was founded upon the values of Truth, Honor, and Personal Integrity and encourages brothers to uphold those values in their daily lives. It exists to provide men with a place of belonging and membership and a framework for growth and personal development throughout their collegiate years and beyond.
